What is the difference between Colombian Emeralds and normal emeralds?
I can't seem to find any helpful information on the subject. Is there a visible difference? A difference in quality? Colombian emeralds are more expensive and prestigious, but why is that?
Columbian emeralds are greener in color and have a more desireable color. Brazilian ones are bluer therefore are less expensive. African emeralds are different, too but the Columbian are generally better in color.
Caution...there are many synthetics out there. Also, when I studied at the GIA, I had to appraise an emerald that turned out to have an emerald top cemented to a green garnet bottom.
Diamonds are easy. Either it is or it's not but emeralds are a separate study. Only buy from a reputable jeweler
