How can I get a scratch out of an old plastic "gem stone"?
I have a really old costume jewelry necklace that is very pretty. It's also irreplaceable. The largest "stone" in it is a rounded cabochon of hard, translucent plastic (it simulates a garnet). This piece fell out and after locating it (I searched forever!) it had a scratch on the front. I think someone may have stepped on it...
Anyway, how can I buff this out and restore the necklace?
It's very important to me...and not as tacky looking as it sounds when I mention "plastic" and costume jewelry, lol. I believe it may be from the late 40's or early 50's...and I've been unable to locate a similar piece of jewelry.
If the scratch isn't too deep, I suggest "displex scratch remover". It's typically used for cell phone screens but I think it will work on the plastic stone you have mentioned. And even if it doesn't work, it won't damage your neclace.
