Garnet Gemstone Lot
Rude Zales jeweler refused to test gemstone garnet?
Hi again, lol. Ok, continuing from the other 2 questions i asked....I took the garnet pendant with me to a jeweler- Zales to be precise. (long story short, I've been trying to see if this garnet pendant is CZ or a real garnet cuz I might have been lied to). Lots of people told me to go see a jeweler, so I did. I got there, and first of all, let me say the lady was a little rude and snotty, and seemed upset when i came up to ask her my question, like I had somehow offended her for coming into the store. I greeted her, and I began to ask her, "I was wondering if your store has a way to see if semi-precious stones, like garnet, are real or fake, like CZ?" (I was referring to a visual test, like to see the refractive index or something since i do not have the equipment to do so). As soon as I said "semi-precious", she cut me off and snapped at me saying "We ONLY test diamonds!!!!" A little shocked by her attitude, i politely started to ask if she knew of a place that could test them. Before i could finish that question, she shook her head and told me no, and that there are no tests for semi-precious stones, only diamonds, and then walked away from me, without even so much as an apology. So, I have a few questions:
1) Has anyone else had bad sales experience with Zales? lol
2) Was she correct in saying there are no tests for garnets or semi-precious stones? Because I find that hard to beleive.... how else could one indentify a stone's authenticity unless you TEST it??!!! lol
3) So, if a JEWELER refuses to test my garnet, WHO WILL? lol 
Thanx in advance ^_^ What i'm wondering is, is there anythign like a light or visual test? scratch test? acid test? anything i can do myself at home? lol, thanx!!!
zales has always had rude sales people. every one i have ever been to has. i went there with my fiance to look at engagement rings and they all seemed interested in only showing me what would make them the most money
THEY may only test diamonds, but seriously SOMEBODY has to be able to test semi precious stones. check other jewlery stores.
i dont know any at home tests you could do without damaging the stones.
