what is the best way for cleaning and polishing your gemstone jewelry?

I wear silver and some gold gemstone rings, I am wondering what is the best way to clean and polish them with out ruining or possiblely destroying the gems?

It is dependant upon the gemstone as some are more vulnerable than other. I you decide upon buying an ultrasonic cleaner make sure you are careful on what items you use it on, as it can damage some and even destroy some types of gemstone (detailed in the articles above).
