What tiny details in George Martin's A Song of Ice + Fire series would drastically alter the story if changed?
I love the way George RR Martin unfolds his stories and how he forces the reader to contemplate the importance of all the tiny details and political undercurrents. It would be funny to discuss funny "what if" type situations for the series. For example, if Grandma Tyrell had taken the wrong moonstone from Sansa's hairnet... That's not really uber-amusing, but you get the idea!
What if Bran had still fallen, but hadn't seen what he did?
What if Hodor could express himself?
What if Old Nan hadn't told the history-based folk tales her former charges recall years later but had shared different ones?
What if Walder Frey was unable to father children?
What if Sansa were the rebel and Arya the dutiful daughter?
Three people in my household have read these books--we discuss what-if, and casting, fairly often.
