Testament of You - Agatha Christie
The Moonstone - Wilkie Collins
Brave New World - Aldous Huxley
1984 - George Orwell
Dracula - Bram Stoker
The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde
Northanger Abbey - Jane Austen
A Tale of Two Cities - Charles Dickens
Silar Marner - George Elliot
A Room with a View - E.M. Forster
Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time - Mark Haddon
Sons and Lovers - D.H. Lawrence
A Parcel of Patterns - Jill Patton Walsh
She Stoops to Conquer - Oliver Goldsmith
A Doll's House - Henrik Ibsen
Twelfth Night - William Shakespeare
The Importance of Being Earnest - Oscar Wilde
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, definitely. Aldous Huxley was an amazing author and I feel that Brave New World was superior to 1984 because it is much more relevant to where we are as a society at this point in time. Not to say that what happens in 1984 couldn't happen, we're just not at that point yet. That being said George Orwell is one of my favorites of all time. 1984 is a classic, you should read it as well as Animal Farm if you can choose anything by the author that's not on the list, however Orwell's nonfiction is truly amazing. Between the two, 1984 is defintely a faster and easier read than Brave New World, but they both have merit. Animal Farm is really short (like 50 or 60 pages if I remember correctly) and is very fast-moving containing a lot of action and dialogue.
Bram Stoker's Dracula - an excellent book and an amazing character study. However it is the exact opposite of a fast and easy read. As far as it being short I suppose it's short if you read Tolstoy or any other Russian literature but the copy I read was like 400-500 pages.
Haven't read A Picture of Dorian Gray but I hear it's pretty good and an easy read as well.
A Doll's House is a relatively easy read, but complete b*******t if you ask me. I found it absolutely atrocious and not worthy of my time. Although it possibly had a place and worked as a form of literature in the time it was written, today it states the obvious and makes nothing but moot points.
I read The Importance of Being Earnest in the same class I read Doll's House and I remember liking it a lot. I don't remember much about it but it was very witty and Oscar Wilde has a beautiful way with words.
Charles Dickens is particularly fun. I haven't read A Tale of Two Cities but I've read a few of his other books and he has a very great style. Easy to read too.
The two I would read would be Brave New World and 1984. They both deal with dystopian societies (hey, turn on the news) and they both make excellent points about the nature of human beings.
Hope this was helpful.
