How to get newspapers to run a story?
Hi there...I have a business doing custom jewelry design. I designed a really beautiful 18K white gold and diamond pendant with a morganite center stone (light pink) Anyways, I made this to donate to a breast cancer auction. I gave it because I want to help, but it would be kind of nice to get a little recognition for it as well. I tried calling a local paper and letting them know what I am doing, but so far nothing has come of it. Any ideas on how to get a newspaper to run a story on me and what I'm doing? I need some free or low cost exposure!
I would guess the recipient would have to do some of the talking. The cancer group probably has a public relations person who handles such matters. A phone call to him/her might help.
If you do the calling, it might seem like you are fishing for publicity only. One other warning: you've made a nice gesture, but there are many such gestures out there. So there's no guarantee about your action getting publicity.
