Help Identifying an Opal ring?

I have a opal ring that I was going to try and sell and I don't want to get scammed on it so if any one can help I appreciate it. It's gold in color, with stones that look like diamonds (I'm sure that they are not) surrounding an opal about the size of the top of a pencil eraser. There is a stamp of "maja" on the inside.

It's not always easy. I'd suggest you go to a jewellery shop and ask for some informal advice first. You want to speak with a jeweller directly -- maybe tell someone you were thinking of having it cleaned and ask some questions about what kind of ring it is, what the stones are, what the metal is etc. An important question to ask with an opal is whether you're dealing with a solid opal, or a doublet or a triplet. That'll make a huge difference.

If speaking with the jeweller reveals you've got something special on your hands, I'd recommend you have it valued for insurance purposes and use that as a starting point when you're selling.

You definitely want to come across as knowledgeable by the time it comes to selling the piece!
