Why are Thailand Gemstones so cheap?
I noted some very cheap gemstones on E-bay from Thailand. Some are from sellers with 4000 or more points, and 100% positive feedback. I was bidding, and won two topaz, a ruby, and a green emerald. All four stones are at least 3 ct. The cost, with shipping on these cut stones are only $10-$15 each. I am getting four stones for $50. So why so cheap? Are they just really low quality, or is that really what they cost outside the western market?
You will need to note also that those stones you purchased may be labelled Lab Gem, In other words, they scientifically press it. Once you grind them up and test the component, they would have all the same ingredients of all the natural stones would have.
Ruby, Emerald would generally be much more expensive than topaz, depending of course on the quality of stones. I'm into precious stone for quite sometimes (like more than 15 years and very much want to open a trading centre). Laboratory stones, or lab stones these days are so good that there's no bubble in them anymore. In the old days, you can tell the different as lab stones would have some bubble in them looking through 10 times standard magnifying lens. These days you need to look into the ribbon inside the stones.
If you don't know the different, and of course once you wear them very few people can tell the different. You bought it 10 dollars a piece so be proud of it. Many of the sites state clearly that those are lab stones and even when the settings are in 18 K real gold.
