I want to buy a genuine paraiba tourmaline but don't know if it's real?
I am wanting to buy a genuine paraiba tourmaline. I have found some on ebay. The one I would like to get is listed on ebay and is over 50 carats. It says it comes from Mozambique. The gem comes with a certificate from GIA and there is a picture of the certificate and I asked GIA and they said the certificate number matches the gem. The paraiba tourmaline is being sent from Thailand and I can buy it for around $10,000. Is this paraiba tourmaline real as I am unsure? I have read that they are worth a lot and that it is rare to have one this big so I am a little unsure as to whether it's real or not. Someone told me that they can crush paraiba tourmalines and then add chemicals and make really large paraiba tourmalines that seem real and cannot be detected as being fake unless they are thoroughly tested. Can anyone provide me with more information regarding the paraiba tourmaline that I may be buying? Thanks
it must badly flawed as that would be an unbelievable price for a 50 carat stone, only the best gems are considered investment quality. you would be better off buying a 1 carat for 10,000. the best paraiba's can go for 20,000 a carat, ive never heard of making a big one from small ones, especially that an expert can not tell, 50 carat stones do come from africa, but that price is unbelievable, i would be wary
