How can I or a jeweler tell if a blue tourmaline is genuine or a blue zircon?
I need someone who knows what to test for exactly to tell the difference.
Tourmaline has some distinguishing features. It has three-sided prisms; no other common mineral has three sides. Prisms faces often have heavy vertical striations that produce a rounded triangular effect. Tourmaline is rarely perfectly euhedral.
Zircon is tetragonal.
